An Operating System is the basic software that manages a computer system. It controls how the hardware functions, the communication with peripheral devices like a monitor, a printer or a keyboard, the allocation of memory between your applications, and the prioritization of apps in case multiple ones run simultaneously. Each and every program that's installed on a PC operates by sending requests to the OS for different services using an application program interface (API). The contact with the OS can be performed using a Graphical User Interface (GUI) or a command line. In the web hosting field, the OS is what runs a hosting server together with any software installed on it, which includes not only website scripts, but, in addition any other application for example a VOIP or a game server. When there are virtual machines created, they use a guest OS which is run on the server host OS.

Multiple OS in VPS Servers

We provide three different Linux distributions for the Operating System of our VPS servers - Debian, CentOS and Ubuntu. These are among the most stable and reliable OSs you can get and we offer all 3 instead of just one because we realize that you may want to set up some software which has specific requirements with regards to the Operating System it shall run on. The latter is due to the fact that each of the three Operating Systems has a huge support community behind it and there are different software packages you may install on the server. Your OS selection will also determine what hosting Control Panel can be installed on the VPS if you would like to use one and for that reason we offer multiple Control Panels too. Should you decide that you need some other OS, our tech support team can quickly wipe the existing one and install the one that you would like. We also offer an optional service to keep the OS on your VPS updated weekly.

Multiple OS in Dedicated Servers

We offer three Operating Systems with our dedicated server solutions - CentOS, Ubuntu and Debian. They are all different Linux distributions and we offer them not only because they are totally free and they won't increase the low price of your new web hosting server, but also because they are exceptionally stable and secure. Each one of them is supported by a vast community of developers, so you will be able to choose from thousands of software packages that you could install on your server if the application that you intend to work with has specific requirements. The Operating System will also determine what hosting Control Panel you can use since the Control Panels that we offer are compatible with specific OSs only and since we want to give you as much adaptability as possible, we offer a couple of OSs and multiple Control Panels. If you get a server with a given OS, we will change it upon request in case it turns out that you'll need alternative one. We will also keep the OS updated weekly as part of our optional Managed Services upgrade.
